The mandatory car insurance in BC is provided by a government-run insurance company, Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC). Both, government and private companies are competing to sell enhancements to the required minimum insurance.

British Columbia is one of the three provinces with the cheapest car insurance premiums. The other two are Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The average auto insurance premium in BC is around $1400 per year, with some cities such as Victoria even cheaper than that - at around $945.

You may drive in BC with a valid driver's license from another jurisdiction for six months, as opposed to Ontario where you can use your foreign licence for only two months.
